At-home HPV test could save older women from cervical cancer in poor nations
NCT ID NCT07244315
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tested whether a screening strategy using at-home HPV self-sampling followed by a Pap test for women who test positive can effectively detect cervical pre-cancer in women aged 50-65 in Cameroon. About 500 women participated, providing self-collected samples and, if HPV-positive, undergoing further exams. The goal was to see if this approach is accurate and practical for low-resource settings where standard screening is often unreliable for older women.
