Brain ultrasound may guide shunt surgery for fluid buildup
NCT ID NCT07285928
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a simple ultrasound of the brain can help doctors decide which patients with suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus (a condition where fluid builds up in the brain) will benefit from a shunt (a tube that drains the fluid). About 110 adults will get an ultrasound before a spinal tap, and their progress will be checked one year later. The goal is to see if the ultrasound measurements can predict who will improve after surgery, potentially avoiding unnecessary procedures.
