Brain blood flow under pressure: ICU study seeks safer sedation targets

NCT ID NCT05804773

First seen Mar 09, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at how changes in blood pressure affect blood flow to the brain in patients sedated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Researchers will use non-invasive tools like ultrasound and brain wave monitors to measure brain activity and oxygen levels. The goal is to find safe blood pressure targets for each patient, especially those with risk factors like age or heart problems. About 92 adults in the ICU will take part, and no new treatments are being tested.
