New cell infusion aims to shield transplant patients from agonizing mouth sores

Summary
This study is testing if a single infusion of cells from umbilical cords can prevent severe, painful mouth sores in adults getting a stem cell transplant. About 22 patients at one hospital in China will receive the infusion 1-2 days before their transplant. Researchers will monitor them closely to see if the treatment reduces the rate of severe sores and is safe.
