Summary
This study compared how long two different types of IV catheters (open and closed systems) could stay in place and work properly in patients in a respiratory intensive care unit. Researchers enrolled 100 patients to see which catheter design lasted longer before needing to be replaced and which caused fewer complications. The goal was to gather information to help improve patient comfort and reduce the need for repeated needle sticks.
