Can a simple call or text prevent another ER trip for suicidal teens?

NCT ID NCT07411300

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether extra support for caregivers—like follow-up phone calls or automatic messages through a patient portal—can help families after a youth's mental health emergency room visit. About 75 caregivers of children aged 10-17 who went to the ER for suicidal thoughts or behaviors will be randomly assigned to usual care, phone follow-ups, or electronic messages. The main goal is to see if these approaches reduce return ER visits and are acceptable to families.
