New care bundle aims to slash deadly gut disease in preterm babies

NCT ID NCT05934123

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a set of guidelines (a care bundle) helped increase the number of very premature babies fed their own mother's milk and reduced a life-threatening gut condition called necrotising enterocolitis (NEC). Researchers reviewed medical records of over 53,000 babies born before 32 weeks in England and Wales. The goal was to see if the bundle worked and which parts helped most.
