Could a cardiologist's sedation speed up heart-rhythm treatment?

NCT ID NCT07571447

First seen May 16, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two sedation methods for a heart procedure that checks for blood clots and then delivers a controlled electric shock to restore normal rhythm in people with atrial fibrillation or flutter. Currently, a stronger sedative given by an anaesthesiologist is used, which can cause delays. The study tests whether a cardiologist can safely give a milder sedative (midazolam) instead, potentially speeding up treatment and discharge. About 220 adults in Denmark will take part, and researchers will measure how quickly patients go home, treatment success, side effects, and cost savings.
