New carbon screws could sharpen cancer imaging and boost radiotherapy precision

NCT ID NCT06293157

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study compares carbon fiber and titanium screws used to stabilize the spine in people with cancer that has spread to the backbone. Carbon screws cause less interference on CT and MRI scans, which may help doctors plan radiotherapy more accurately and spot tumor regrowth earlier. The trial involves 226 adults who need both surgery and stereotactic radiotherapy, and aims to see if carbon implants improve local tumor control and survival.
