First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a low or moderate dose of FDA-approved cannabidiol (Epidiolex) to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps adults with generalized anxiety disorder. Ninety participants will receive either CBD or a placebo alongside CBT, and researchers will measure changes in brain activity and anxiety symptoms. The goal is to see if CBD can enhance the benefits of therapy.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cannabidiol (Epidiolex)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new way to boost the effects of talk therapy for anxiety, potentially helping people feel better faster or with fewer sessions.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small early-stage trial (90 people) focused on brain scans and short-term symptom changes. The results may not apply to everyone, and side effects of cannabidiol are possible.
