Could a calf workout be the key to healing stubborn leg ulcers?
NCT ID NCT07763782
First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a structured, supervised exercise program that activates the calf muscle pump can improve healing of venous leg ulcers compared to standard advice to walk at home. The study involves adults aged 20 to 60 with non-healing ulcers, and it measures changes in wound size and venous function. The goal is to see if a personalized exercise routine can boost blood flow and speed up recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Structured calf muscle pump activation exercises with a dose-response protocol
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a more personalized, exercise-based therapy to speed up venous leg ulcer healing and improve quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. The exercises require supervision and adherence, and outcomes depend on individual response.
