Tape measure vs. X-Ray: a simpler way to spot muscle loss in seniors?
NCT ID NCT05869487
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study compares using a tape measure around the calf to a standard X-ray method for diagnosing sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) in hospitalized patients aged 75 and older. Researchers will enroll 298 participants to see if the simple calf measurement is accurate enough to replace the more expensive and complex X-ray test. If successful, this could make diagnosing sarcopenia faster and more accessible.
