Gene test could tell you if caffeine boosts your workout
NCT ID NCT06610123
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether a person's genes (specifically the CYP1A2 gene) change how caffeine affects their strength training over 8 weeks. 48 healthy, active adults took either caffeine or a placebo before each workout. Researchers measured things like lifting speed, power, and muscle changes to see if genetics play a role.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- caffeine
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help personalize caffeine use for better strength training results based on a person's genetics.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study (48 people) looking at a specific gene. Results may not apply to everyone or lead to clear recommendations.
