Could a stroke drug boost brain power in seniors with epilepsy?

NCT ID NCT07193277

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests whether butylphthalide, a drug already used for stroke, can improve memory and thinking in older adults (ages 60-85) who have focal epilepsy and mild to moderate cognitive problems. About 220 participants will take either the drug or a placebo for 48 weeks while continuing their usual seizure medication. The goal is to see if the drug helps slow or reverse cognitive decline, which current epilepsy treatments do not address.
