Could a quick zap during back surgery help bladder and bowel recovery?

This study explores whether a short burst of electrical stimulation applied during routine back surgery can improve nerve recovery in people with cauda equina syndrome, a condition that can cause bladder, bowel, and sexual problems. About 40 adults having emergency surgery will receive the stimulation, and researchers will measure how well nerves conduct signals and whether bladder function improves. The main goal is to see if this approach is feasible for a larger future study.
