Breathe easy: new study tests simple technique to beat MRI claustrophobia

NCT ID NCT07309328

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether a guided breathing exercise called cardiac coherence can help people who are afraid of enclosed spaces complete an MRI scan successfully. About 220 patients aged 7 and older who report claustrophobia will either use this breathing technique or receive standard comfort measures like music or cartoons. The goal is to see if the breathing exercise leads to more usable scans and better image quality.
