Breathing without a tube: new strategy aims to speed lung transplant recovery

NCT ID NCT07384546

First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether a 'tubeless' anesthesia and surgery method helps adults with end-stage lung disease recover faster after a lung transplant. Instead of a breathing tube and deep sedation, patients breathe on their own during and after surgery. About 110 participants at several hospitals in China will receive this approach, and researchers will track their need for a breathing tube, hospital stay length, and survival.
