New mammogram method could spot more cancers in dense breasts

NCT ID NCT05625659

First seen Feb 23, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study compares a special type of mammogram that uses a contrast dye (CESM) with standard 3D mammography (DBT) to see which finds more breast cancers and causes fewer false alarms. About 2,000 women with dense breast tissue and no breast symptoms will be screened with both methods and followed for one year. The goal is to improve early detection in women whose dense tissue can hide tumors on standard mammograms.
