New shot into breast tumors aims to wake up immune system before surgery

NCT ID NCT07319195

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a drug that activates immune cells (CD40 agonist) directly into breast tumors, alone or with another immune-boosting drug (PD-1 inhibitor), is safe and can be done before planned surgery. About 32 adults with early-stage or recurrent breast cancer that can be removed will get one injection at least 7 days before surgery. Researchers will check for side effects, whether surgery is delayed, and if the treatment boosts immune activity in the tumor.
