Biopsy vs. surgery: could some breast cancer patients avoid the knife?
NCT ID NCT02455791
First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 35 times
Summary
This study tests whether a less invasive ultrasound-guided biopsy can accurately tell if breast cancer has been completely wiped out by chemotherapy, compared to the standard method of checking during surgery. About 43 women with aggressive breast cancer types (triple negative or HER2-positive) will have both a biopsy and then surgery, and researchers will compare the results. If the biopsy proves reliable, some patients might be able to skip surgery in the future.
