Brain scans reveal why social rejection hurts more for some

NCT ID NCT07428200

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at how the brains of people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) react to feeling left out. Using EEG, researchers will measure brain activity while participants play a virtual ball-tossing game designed to trigger feelings of social exclusion. The goal is to understand why social pain feels stronger for those with BPD, which could lead to better treatments in the future. About 62 adults, half with BPD and half without, will take part.
