Scientists scan brains to unlock secrets of the Mind's power over pain
NCT ID NCT04646460
Summary
This study aims to understand how the brain creates the placebo effect—when a person feels better after a treatment that has no active medicine. Researchers will use brain scans (fMRI) to see how watching someone else get relief and having a personal good or bad experience with a fake cream affects pain perception. The goal is to learn what makes these belief-based pain relief effects stronger and longer-lasting.
