Brain implant 'reads' thoughts to stop Parkinson's patients from freezing

NCT ID NCT06642519

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests a brain-machine interface that can detect when a person with Parkinson's disease is about to freeze while walking and then stimulate the brain to prevent it. Ten people already scheduled for deep brain stimulation surgery will have extra sensors placed on the brain's surface to record and stimulate activity during walking. The goal is to find the best way to stop freezing episodes and improve mobility.
