Scientists scan brains to unravel speech disorder mystery

NCT ID NCT01818661

First seen Nov 12, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at how brain changes relate to speech and language problems in people with progressive apraxia of speech (AOS), a condition that slowly impairs the ability to speak. Researchers will use brain scans and speech tests over time to track these changes. The goal is to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment. About 50 participants diagnosed at Mayo Clinic will take part.
