Summary
This study aims to understand how blood flow and oxygen delivery affect brain development in children and young adults with sickle cell disease. Researchers will compare 120 participants—some with sickle cell and some healthy—using MRI scans to measure brain blood flow while breathing controlled air. The goal is to learn why some children with sickle cell experience silent strokes or slower brain development, which could inform future treatments.
