Summary
This study aims to understand how blood flow and oxygen delivery affect brain development in children and young adults with sickle cell anemia. Researchers will use MRI scans and breathing tests to compare 120 participants—some with sickle cell and some healthy—to see how their brains respond to changes in oxygen demand. The goal is to learn why some children with sickle cell experience silent strokes or slower brain development, which could lead to better future treatments.
