New radiation monitor aims to catch errors during cancer treatment
NCT ID NCT07580651
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a plastic scintillation detector that can monitor radiation dose and source position in real time during brachytherapy for prostate and gynecologic cancers. The goal is to see if the device can be used without disrupting the treatment workflow. If it works, it could help prevent errors and make treatment safer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- plastic scintillation detector
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a safer way to deliver brachytherapy by catching errors in radiation dose or source position during treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early feasibility study with only 20 patients, so results may not apply broadly. The device may not integrate smoothly into clinical workflow or detect errors reliably.
