New telescoping rod aims to strengthen fragile bones in kids

NCT ID NCT05612139

Summary

This study observed how well a special telescoping metal rod works for children with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease). The rod is placed inside the bone during surgery to help it heal and grow stronger. Researchers followed 14 children for a year after their surgery to check the rod's safety, how often it needed replacing, and if it helped prevent new fractures.
