New CT method could sharpen fracture predictions for osteoporosis patients

NCT ID NCT03463850

First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a special CT scan (DECT) can better predict bone fracture risk in people with osteoporosis than the standard bone density test (DEXA). Seven women aged 60 or older with osteoporosis took part. Researchers used the CT images to develop a computer tool that estimates fracture risk by looking at bone structure, not just density.
