Mapping blood diversity: NIH study seeks to improve transfusion safety for ethiopian communities
NCT ID NCT01282021
Summary
This study aims to understand the genetic patterns of blood types in three distinct Ethiopian sub-populations. Researchers collected blood samples from 95 healthy adult volunteers to analyze blood group antigens. The goal is to improve blood transfusion safety and donor matching for Ethiopian-Americans, who may have unique blood type profiles that aren't well represented in current donor pools.
