Major surgery safety study: which blood pressure drug better protects your organs?

Summary
This large study aims to determine which of two commonly used blood pressure medications works better to protect patients' kidneys and heart during major non-heart surgeries. Researchers will compare norepinephrine and phenylephrine in 18,000 adults undergoing surgeries lasting at least two hours under general anesthesia. Hospitals will alternate monthly between using one drug or the other as their primary choice, with data collected from routine medical records.
