Can a thigh cuff help stop bladder leaks? new trial investigates

NCT ID NCT07322250

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding blood flow restriction to standard pelvic floor exercises can reduce stress urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women. Sixty women will be split into two groups: one doing pelvic floor training with biofeedback alone, and the other doing the same training while a cuff gently restricts blood flow to the thighs. The trial lasts 10 weeks and measures symptom severity, quality of life, and self-esteem.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

blood flow restriction training combined with pelvic floor muscle training and EMG biofeedback

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new, non-drug way to reduce stress urinary incontinence symptoms in postmenopausal women.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. The blood flow restriction technique is novel for this condition, and results may not apply to all women. There is also a risk of discomfort or injury from the thigh cuff.
