New dissolving heart implant could ease migraines without metal side effects

NCT ID NCT06203873

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a new biodegradable heart device can reduce migraine days better than a standard metal device in people with a common heart hole called PFO. About 400 adults aged 18-65 with frequent migraines and PFO will be randomly assigned to receive either device. The goal is to see if the biodegradable option, which dissolves over time, provides similar or better migraine relief while avoiding potential long-term issues linked to permanent metal implants.
