Summary

This early-stage trial investigates the safety and tolerability of a new drug called BI 3031185 in healthy Japanese men, given as single or multiple doses. It also examines whether multiple doses of BI 3031185 affect how the body processes a common oral contraceptive (YAZ®) in healthy Japanese women. The study aims to gather crucial safety data and understand potential drug interactions before moving to larger trials.

If successful, this could pave the way for future studies of BI 3031185 in treating diseases, by first confirming it is safe and does not interfere with common medications.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 1 trial in healthy volunteers, not patients. The drug may prove unsafe or ineffective in later trials. Results may not apply to other populations.
