Could a Half-Dose of steroid protect preemie brains just as well?

NCT ID NCT04021485

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study follows about 643 children who were born very early (before 32 weeks) to see if giving their mothers half the usual dose of a steroid called betamethasone is as safe for the children's brain development as the full dose. The children are now 5 years old and will take thinking and memory tests. The goal is to find out if a lower dose can still protect the brain while reducing unnecessary medicine exposure.
