Jaw injection may take the ouch out of wisdom tooth surgery
NCT ID NCT07297264
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tested whether a single injection of betamethasone (a steroid) into the jaw space could reduce pain, swelling, and difficulty opening the mouth after impacted wisdom tooth surgery. Forty healthy adults with similar wisdom teeth on both sides received the steroid on one side and a placebo on the other. The trial was terminated early, so the findings are limited.
