Could a single antibiotic beat a combo for strep blood infections?

NCT ID NCT07240077

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study compares using one antibiotic (beta-lactam) alone versus combining it with another (levofloxacin) to treat strep bloodstream infections. About 165 adults with a positive strep blood culture will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if the single drug works just as well, potentially reducing side effects and antibiotic resistance.
