Viruses vs. superbugs: new hope for implant infections
NCT ID NCT07533292
First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests a treatment using bacteriophages—viruses that naturally kill bacteria—to fight stubborn infections around orthopedic implants like joint replacements. About 100 adults will receive the therapy, and doctors will check if the infection clears by testing samples over a week. The goal is to eliminate the infection without relying on long-term antibiotics, though some patients may need additional cycles.
