First seen Feb 23, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests a new digital avatar (virtual coach) program for young adults aged 18-29 who visit the emergency department with alcohol misuse and suicidal thoughts. Participants are randomly assigned to use either the avatar program with supportive texts or a free suicide safety app. The goal is to see if the program is easy to use, if people stick with daily surveys for 28 days, and if it shows early promise in reducing alcohol use and suicidal thoughts.
