Could a common cholesterol drug supercharge TB treatment?

NCT ID NCT06199921

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin to standard TB treatment can help clear the infection faster and improve lung health. About 440 adults and children with new, untreated pulmonary TB will receive either standard care or standard care plus atorvastatin. The goal is to see if the combination is safe and leads to better outcomes, such as negative sputum tests and improved chest X-rays.
