Cholesterol drug may prevent liver cancer in High-Risk patients

NCT ID NCT05028829

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking atorvastatin (a widely used cholesterol medication) daily for a year can reduce the risk of developing liver cancer in 60 adults with advanced liver fibrosis or cirrhosis. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either atorvastatin or a placebo, and researchers will measure changes in a blood-based risk score for liver cancer. The goal is to see if this safe, affordable drug can prevent cancer in a high-risk population.
