Scientists probe hidden link between asthma and common virus

NCT ID NCT01224691

Summary

This study aimed to understand why people with asthma often get sicker from a common respiratory virus called RSV. Researchers collected lung cells from 113 adults, both with and without mild asthma, to test in a lab. The goal was to see if a specific body chemical, TGF-beta, makes the airways of people with asthma more susceptible to the virus, which could guide future treatment research.
