New contrast agent aims to improve detection of heart shunts

NCT ID NCT06938347

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests a new contrast agent called ASI-02 against the standard agitated saline for finding right-to-left shunts—a heart defect that can cause strokes. About 300 adults with suspected shunts will receive both agents during an ultrasound and be compared. The goal is to see if ASI-02 is safer and more accurate at detecting the defect.
