NCT ID NCT07541157
First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding the herb ashwagandha to the usual schizophrenia medicine risperidone could improve thinking and memory. Eighty men with schizophrenia took either risperidone alone or risperidone plus ashwagandha for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in a blood marker called BDNF and scores on a thinking test. The goal was to see if ashwagandha could be a helpful add-on therapy for cognitive problems in schizophrenia.
