First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding ashwagandha, a natural herb, to standard schizophrenia medication (risperidone) could improve thinking and memory. Eighty adult men with schizophrenia took either risperidone alone or risperidone plus ashwagandha for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in a brain chemical called BDNF and scores on a thinking test to see if the herb made a difference.
