Summary

This study tested whether taking aronia berry extract for a period can improve blood flow and insulin sensitivity in the brain, which are linked to better thinking skills. Thirty adults aged 55-75 with higher body weight but no diabetes took the supplement or a placebo in a crossover design. Researchers used MRI scans to measure brain changes and cognitive tests to check memory and attention.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Aronia berry extract (dietary supplement)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a natural supplement to support brain health in aging.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and supplements are not regulated like drugs.
