Scented massage shows promise for stroke arm stiffness in elderly

NCT ID NCT07286825

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This small study tested whether a 10-minute aromatherapy massage twice a week for four weeks could reduce arm stiffness and improve emotional well-being in elderly stroke survivors living in care homes. Thirty people aged 65 and older took part, with half receiving a special essential oil blend and the other half plain oil. Researchers measured arm movement, pain, blood pressure, and anxiety and depression levels before and after the treatment.
