Arm cranking may boost leg circulation in PAD patients
NCT ID NCT06068504
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how arm cranking exercise and warm water foot immersion change blood flow and shear stress in the leg arteries of people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Fifteen participants with PAD and claudication symptoms will complete three sessions: arm exercise, warm water foot soak, and a control session. Researchers will measure artery diameter, blood flow, and shear stress using ultrasound to understand how these interventions affect circulation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help design better exercise programs for people with peripheral artery disease to improve leg blood flow.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 15 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It measures short-term effects, not long-term benefits.
