Can your phone talk you out of smoking? new app trial tests the idea
NCT ID NCT04893460
Summary
This study tested a new mobile app designed to help people quit smoking. The app uses a psychological approach called 'cognitive dissonance,' which encourages people to confront the conflict between their smoking habit and their desire to be healthy. Over 25 days, 60 adult smokers used the app in small online groups, completing video activities like writing a letter about their commitment to quit. Researchers measured changes in smoking habits and participants' feelings about quitting over six weeks.
