First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study explored whether treating a common virus (CMV) with an antiviral drug (valganciclovir) could improve depression symptoms and brain health. Twenty adults with major depression who tested positive for CMV took either the drug or a placebo for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in brain scans, inflammation, and mood to see if targeting the virus might help.
